At devotions today, all of us were talking about how some people questioned us why we were going so far away to do a mission trip. Yes, it would be less expensive to do, lets say a soup kitchen in Pittsburgh, but personally I wouldn't feel as accomplished as I do on this trip. I think that in order to have a successful mission trip, we must bond with the people we are helping, to get to know their story. When I know get to know people is when I truly feel like I'm doing good.
After VBS, we went to Bottomless Lake. We had a fun afternoon of swimming and soaking up the sun. Emily, Chelsea, Esther, and Adam all went for a ride on a paddle boat. Also, Chloe and I went on a ride with Jorge Jr. and Omar, another helper from VBS. After the lake, we went to an Italian Restaurant (I can't remember the name) and had delicious pizza. Later on, Jorge Sr., and Adam took us to see another church. It reminded me a lot of our own church.
Today was an awesome day and I hope tomorrow is as good!!
Oh yeah, Chloe and I are going to hide when everyone leaves and come out after they are gone. WE DON'T WANT TO LEAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI think you hit the nail on the head. Why you feel accomplished is because you removed yourself from your comfort zone and stepped out into the world only standing on your faith clothed with lessons learned in Sunday School and CE. You feel valued in this mission field because these people are calling for help and trying to make it through life. You are providing a service not one person in "their" community can because they never walked a day in your shoes. God is great He made in Grove City to help those in Dexter! God is Great!
You know we have been given a blueprint for mission. The original church in Jerusalem was established to care for the Chritians in Jerusalem and they sent out people to other communities to establish church to care for local needs and those church sent out people other communities and so on.
Yes, it is cheaper to do a soup kitchen in Pittsburgh but that is not only thing we should do. We should also send people out, because that is how God wants it. North Liberty needs to take care of the local needs but we also need to send a few away.
In my opinion the ones who are questioning why we send people so far away dont understand mission or what the God is telling us to do. Thank God Paul did not have his congregation telling him it is too much money to go Corinth we should just take care of the people in Jerusalem.
